ISS MI’s Advisor Pulse Research Reveals Digital Content’s Role in Investment Decision Making

"

NEW YORK (October 24, 2024) – ISS Market Intelligence (MI), a leading provider of data, analytics, insights, media, and events solutions to the global financial services industry, today announced the latest results of its ISS MI Advisor Pulse Series.

The Advisor Pulse Series – Digital Content report is based on the results of over 600 interviews with U.S.-based financial advisors in September 2024. The study highlights the growing influence of online resources, social media, and financial blogs in shaping adviser recommendations and development of client investment strategies. As advisors continue to navigate the complexities of an ever-evolving financial landscape, asset managers need to be able to target the right opportunities to share their content and establish productive partnerships with advisors.

Key findings include:

  • Advisors place great importance on personalized outreach and face-to-face meetings from their asset manager partners. 30% of advisors cited in-person events as extremely useful, followed by 19% of advisors who said customized and personalized emails were extremely useful.
  • There were, however, stark divides by channel. When asked how they prefer to consume pre-prepared content, 49% of RIA advisors said digital copies of written reports were their preferred medium, compared to only 9% that wanted this content via an in-person presentation. 27% of wirehouse and 28% of broker-dealer advisors meanwhile preferred in-person presentations.
  • Education on sales ideas and strategies is the most sought out educational topic from advisors, with 29% citing this as what they are most looking for from asset managers.

Alan Hess, lead researcher on the ISS MI Advisor Pulse Series, commented on the findings: “This study underlines the importance of digital content in connecting asset managers to advisors, and in turn creating better relationships between advisors and their own clients. Asdemands on advisors’ time require them to take on a variety of responsibilities beyond pure investment management, asset managers will have to be considerate of those pressures when delivering thought leadership content.

“Advisors continue to gain extensive insights from in-person events and presentations but will have limited bandwidth to attend all the events that capture their attention. Having efficiently targeted collateral to keep them up to date on market changes and best practices for selling to clients will be crucial. The wide differences in preferences by channel for certain topics, with RIAs proving to be much more investment-focused, further emphasizes the need to, and benefits from, targeting the right markets,” added Hess.
